The similarities of leadership styles Purpose of this study is to examine the similarities of Servant leadership, transformational and transactional theories and also examine the Contribution those theories make to the understanding of leadership. Introduction: Leadership has a major role in 21st century in all sectors. Here I am going to discuss about understanding of what leadership is, is there any similarities among three theorists on what fine or valuable leadership ought to be. Expectation, in the 21st Century leader should be moral, social and ethical responsible. What is leadership? Leadership is a process of influencing the people to obtain the desired goal. There are many authors giving different definition. Goleman (2000): A leaders singular job is to get results. House et al (2004): Leadership is the ability to motivate, influence and enable individuals To contribute to the objectives of organizations of which they are members. Stogdill (1974): Leadership is an influencing process aimed at goal achievement. Johns T (2008) says: A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they dont necessarily want to be, but ought to be.There are a number of types of leaders who adopt different leadership styles According to Richard Bolden (2004), Different leadership theories were revealed and classified.Ã And also only few leadership theories reached to people. Transformational leaders act in ways that inspire and encourage those around them by providing sense able and challenge to their followers, work. Team spirit is aroused. The leader creates clearly communicated expectations that followers want to meet and also demonstrates commitment to goals and the shared vision. 3. Intellectual stimulation. Transformational leaders encourage their followers hard work to be inventive and new, modern by questing assumptions, reframing the troubles, and approaching mature situations in new or different ways. Secret History or the Horrors of St. Domingo Analysis Analysis of Leonora Sansays Secret History; or, The Horrors of St. Domingo Leonora Sansays Secret History; or, The Horrors of St. Domingo provides a personal historical narrative surrounding the Haitian Revolution. A manuscript in this manner can offer historians a voice to elements of the Revolution that would otherwise be lacking or silent when studying other writings of the period. The manifestos of the revolutionaries, writings of the dominant class and government/military documents often provide the primary materials for research and historical text; however, it is the personal narrative that illuminates certain moods and philosophies that can be overlooked or when emphasising the dates and names surrounding an event. Sansays narrative takes the structure of an epistolary novel, a novel containing a series of letters, written by an American, Mary, to her personal friend Aaron Burr, who at that time was the vice president of the United States. Mary traveled to Saint Domingue in 1802 with her sisters French husband, St. Louis, in hopes of salvaging an estate lost during the early years of the Haitian Revolution. As a secret history, the novel has its foundation in the dawdling relationship between, Leonora Sansay, and Aaron Burr. Like the protagonist in the novel, Mary, Sansay was a close friend of Aaron Burr; and like Marys fictional sister, Clara, Sansay was married to a French officer from Saint Domingue, Louis Sansay. Demonstrating that, the novel is generously based on Leonora Sansays experience in Saint Domingue during the final years of the revolution, 1802-03. On the first reading, Sansays novel seems to give scarce attention to the devastating events of the Haitian revolution. The politics of race and colonial power, and the often horrific scenes of warfare that took place during the very years of the novels account are behind the scenes. Indeed, given Sansays weakness for descriptive accounts of, for instance, the ââ¬Å"innumerable lustres of chrystal and wreaths of natural flowers ornamented the ceiling; and rose and orange trees, in full blossom (Sansay,74) transported aboard a French naval ship in the harbour of Saint Domingues Le Cap Franà §ois to form the backdrop of the Admirals ball, it would be easy to dismiss the novel and its characters as exemplary of an aristocratic temperament. But it is this temperament of the French colonials that makes the document so interesting and important. Michael J. Drexlers introduction to Sansays novel touches on how Secret History has been viewed in the past, and how these views changed with the scholar Joan Dayan. Dayans text Haiti, History and the Gods, was the first serious scholarly use of Sansays writings, ââ¬Å"[f]or Dayan, the novel is both a social history of French decadence and a glimpse of trans-cultural, or trans-racial, mimicry, fantasy, and desireâ⬠(Sansay, 26). What this means is, the novel would seem to focus on the excesses of a French colonial regime that is wilfully removed from the life and death brutalities of the colonial slave system that brought about the revolt occurring outside the doors of its gilded fantasy world of extravagance and indulgence. The question that arises, with the knowledge of the how the book has been overlooked in the past by other historians, is how would Sansays work be of use to a young historian? Having a fundamental understanding of the concerns, causes and conclusion of the revolution in Haiti, assisted in a greater understanding of the novel. In Secret History the politics of French colonial warfare are displayed within the hidden, private desires that flow through the characters. The secret history conjectures a structural relation between the public and the private: each genre privileges a different pole as the primary location of meaning, but both foreground the necessary conflict and reliance of one set of meanings upon the other. This understanding of the characters relations to each other and their surroundings sets a mirror upon the countrys complex interactions. Metaphorically, then, love is colonial warfare. However, the love plot assumes more essentially violent dimensions when St. Louis imprisons Clara in their house threatening to kill her if she attempts to leave. When the armed forces of General Jean-Jacques Dessalines draw near Le Cap, Rochambeau takes advantage of the occasion to invite Clara to safety aboard a French vessel; an offer she declines out of fear of incurring her husbands wrath. The more horrifying truth for Clara, than the soon-to-be-realized threat of the massacre of all the white residents of Le Cap by Dessalines black revolutionary forces, is the menace of being murdered at the hands of her white husband. Yet colonial warfare ultimately offers Clara a surprising escape route from her husband: as Le Cap falls under siege, Mary writes, All the women are suffered to depart, but no man can procure a passport (Sansay,105). Mary and Clara are able flee Saint Domingue and break away from from St. Louis by traveling to Cuba and later Jamaica in the company of other women displaced by the revolution and scattered across a colonial Caribbean landscape. The cruelty of patriarchy in the novel is clearly interrelated to that of colonialism and race politics, a pairing underscored by the formation of a quasi-utopic community of husbandless Creole women at the close of the novel. This novel does possess a certain amount of fictional material, just as any fictional historical narrative will, but there is not a wealth of biographical information available about Leonora Sansay. Michael Drexlers introduction to Secret History provides a useful and comprehensive account of Sansays career. The narrative itself provides quasi-autobiography of Sansay, which discerning historians will find useful. On top of this, Sansay does grant her audience with a believable and accurate backdrop. The Haitian Revolution began in 1791 and ended with the establishment of the first free black republic in the west in 1804. During which time, French and Spanish troops, in a dizzying number of shifting alliances and oppositions, fought white Creole populations, free persons of color, and slave factions, vying for control of the country. By 1800, the black leader, Toussaint Louverture secured control of the island as a whole, but in 1801, the French General Leclerc, who was dispatched to Saint Domingue by Napoleon to reassert French control, captured Toussaint and sent him to France. In Sansays novel, Mary and her sister arrive in Le Cap Francais while Leclerc is in command; thus basing her novel in a sound and accurate setting, proving valuable for scholars. At the outset of our examination of Secret Historywe discussed how a personal narrative can provide a unique voice to any historical event. The opening sentence of Sansays epistolary novel outlines an antagonism between the life of the physical body and that of the Haitian social body: We arrived safely [in Saint Domingue] after a passage of forty days, during which I suffered horribly from sea-sickness, heat and confinement; but the society of my fellow-passengers was so agreeable that I often forgot the inconvenience to which I was exposed (Sansay, 61). The reader can note the difference between the first half of the sentence, which describes the travails of a sea voyage of biblical length and duress, and the second half, which casually dismisses the pains of the flesh in favour of the pleasures of sociability. An inappropriateness of empirical registers marks the opening of the novel, and while this incongruity asserts itself as slightly jarring initially, it becomes increasingly pronounced as the novel unfolds. Indeed, the contrast embedded within the opening sentence augments the intentional exaggeration throughout the novel such, that within a few short pages we find scenes of bayoneted bodies intermingled with blushing glances exchanged at balls in the colonial palaces of Saint Domingue. However exaggerated the text may seem it still opens a precious gem of information that cannot be overlooked or undervalued.

Pornography and Feminism à It is constantly surrounding us. It cannot be evaded. Pornography is an initial part of the entertainment mainstream. Whether it is in magazines, or in music, pornography is gender-prejudiced. The word pornography can be defined as the depiction of erotic behavior intended to cause sexual excitement. à Degrasion towards women is its only accomplishment. The poses they take and the acts they perform are all part of the discrimination that women face . The only thing pornography offers is negative effects on women. Pornography, whether on a page, in music, or on screen, is degrading to all females. Magazines, posters, and other materials portray women as something less than human. A women in Florida argued that she was harassed by her male co-workers who put up graphically sexual posters and calendars, some showing women being abused. Among the offensive materials was a poster with a frontal view of a nude women with a dehumanizing USDA choice printed on it. Also , a teacher in Canada asked the Ontario Human Rights Commission to order the removal of pornographic magazines from convenience stores on the grounds that they create a hostile environment for women. Even Playboy and Penthouse , two of the more popular menà ¾s magazines that actually contain insightful articles on current i ssues or events, degrade women. Psychologist Marty Mckay says that the only way to protect womenà ¾s rights is to prohibit the sale of skin magazines in corner stores. Men are not put into the same portion, and there in lies the discrimination. When speaking of pornography in action, X- rated videos are the first thing that comes to mind. A shop in downtown Toronto that sells dirty movies and frightening looking sex toys has Ultra Great Sex tapes for less than $25.30. One scene contains two men performing simultaneous anal and vaginal intercourse on one women. The obscenity law found in subsection 8 of section 163 in Canadaà ¾s Criminal Code says that a work is absence and illegal if one of its dominant characteristics involves the undue exploitation of sex. A Canada court created three rankings for obscenity. The first, any materials that mixes explicit sex and violence , or include children. The second, works that involves explicit sex and degradation that encourage violence or harm toward women. The key to opening up the world of friendship is not just to focus on the similarities but to accept each otherââ¬â¢s faults because true friends do not judge each other. Friends love unconditionally. They do have their little angry long moments from time to time but at the end of the day all is forgiven and forgotten. True friends are very rare to find bu t once youââ¬â¢ve found them, donââ¬â¢t let them go because not everyone has true friends even if theyââ¬â¢re popular and famous. Emotions in Interpersonal Communications Paper Essay
Abstract In the Human Service field, interpersonal communication is between a client and human service professionals. Interpersonal communication is communication that between two people in a relationship and that, as it evolves, helps them to negotiate and define their relationship (Evans, Hearn, Uhlemann & Ivey, 2011). Human service workers use communication to build working relationships with clients. Emotions is an important factor when discussing interpersonal communication within a relationship. Human services must connect to clientââ¬â¢s emotions to get a better understanding of how to assist them. ââ¬Å"Emotional connection is thinking with the person rather for about themâ⬠(Listening Essentials 2010). Introduction Emotions in interpersonal communication are important role in building working relationship with clients. It is important for human service professional to maintaining eye contact, nonverbal behavior and listening to the clients. Human service workers understand the importance of maintaining working relationships with clients and avoids emotions that are not appropriate in conversations with them. My paper will explain the impact emotions in interpersonal communication, discuss obstacles an interviewerââ¬â¢s faces in dealing with clients and emotions and assess clientââ¬â¢s cultural and impact it has on the interviewer. The impact emotions in interpersonal communications In the Human service field, emotions can impact the way human service workers ask questions and responses to clients. The human service worker can gain advantages of clientââ¬â¢s emotions by using empathy. Empathy is listening to the client, sharing and understanding their concerns or feelings. Emotionsà are the way feel or react to something someone has shared with using nonverbal communications. Clientââ¬â¢s emotions reactions can have a negative or positive result if a human service worker can maintain appropriate body language and eye contact. An example of eye contact is looking at the client with your eyes will encourage he or she to keep talking (Evans, Hearn, Uhlemann & Ivey, 2011). Obstacles an interviewerââ¬â¢s faces in dealing with clients and emotions Cultures, gender and religious, are three obstacles interviewer has to prevail when conducting interviews with clients. The important obstacles that cause more problems for an interviewer are controlling clientâ⠬â¢s emotions. The negative aspect of emotions it can cause clients to close the lines of communication with an interviewer. It can impact the listening skills of the client. If this happen then, the interview must gain control of the situation by changing the way the clients is feeling. It is important that an interviewer continue to learn new techniques or skills to overcome obstacles when dealing with clients emotions. ââ¬Å"One strategy for persuading an individual, therefore, is to appeal to your level of knowledge and expertise with respect to the topicâ⬠(Interpersonal communication, 2012). Assess clientââ¬â¢s cultural and impact it has on the interviewer Communication plays an important role in assisted client in finding solutions to their problems. There are different cultures, languages, religious and lifestyle, but communication can assist human service with meets the needs of all clients. There are many different cultures in the world, so human service workers have made sure they do research on clients before engaging in conversations with them. ââ¬Å"Culturally competent service providers must take into the assessment the full range of factors that influence how any one individual service recipient behaves and communicatesâ⬠(Cultural Competency and Diversity 2005). It is important for human services workers to learn more about the different cultures so you can help assist client that are from other cultures in understanding their needs. If human service workers continue to educate themselves, they will be able to assess clients from other cultures. Conclusion Emotions in interpersonal communication is another form communication that involve a client and human services worker in the human service field. Clientââ¬â¢s emotions can be negative or positive result depending on if theà interviewer is maintained eye contact, body language and nonverbal communications. In the human service field, the interviewer must know how to gain control of clientââ¬â¢s emotions by continuing to learn new skills and techniques. Finally, we live in the world where all cultures, genders or religious are different. People with different cultural backgrounds donââ¬â¢t just communicate differently; in many cases they also think differently (Floyd, 2012). We have to learn to give all cultures, religious and genders respect and continue to asking questions and avoid assumptions.
